President Jokowi Officially Opens World Hydropower Congress (#WHC) 2023 President of the Republic of Indonesia, The Right Honourable Joko Widodo officially opened the World Hydropower Congress 2023 this afternoon at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. In his speech, President Jokowi expressed his hope that the forum could generate policy recommendations for a more sustainable world. The President stated that Indonesia is fully committed to accelerating the energy transition by significantly increasing the use of renewable energy sources on a large scale, as Indonesia is rich in green energy potential. “I hope that the World Hydropower Congress can serve as a collaborative platform that generates policy recommendations and increases investment in the use of hydropower for a sustainable green economy,” he said. Prior to the President’s speech, Premier of Sarawak, The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg addressed the convention where he reiterated that Sarawak is a strong advocate for regional cooperation and the development of the ASEAN Power Grid. The Premier underlined that interconnections are one of the key mechanisms to achieve shared regional sustainability goals in this region, with hydropower as the key renewable energy generation resource that will accelerate the ASEAN Power Grid. Organised by the International Hydropower Association (IHA), WHC 2023 is being held from 31 October – 2 November 2023 in Bali, Indonesia.
