KUCHING (Dec 4): InvestSarawak has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Smart Energy Industry Alliance (CSEIA) and the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tsinghua University Corporation Limited (THAD) which they say is a significant step toward achieving Sarawak’s net carbon zero ambitions.
The MoU, signed at Tsinghua University in China, aims to accelerate Sarawak’s transition to a green economy through innovative projects such as hydrogen energy development, zero-carbon ports, and the creation of a Carbon Neutral Industry Research Institute.
The ceremony was graced by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak and International Trade, Industry, and Investment Minister, According to a statement today.
Key initiatives outlined include the establishment of a Sarawak Green Energy Exchange and investments in carbon-neutral infrastructure.
The partnership also prioritises renewable energy advancements, technology transfer, and human capital development, aligning with Sarawak’s vision to lead the green economy in the region.
“This collaboration underscores Sarawak’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, cementing our position as a regional leader in renewable energy,” Awang Tengah said during the ceremony.
Projects under the MoU include developing green-certified infrastructure, fostering cross-border technical exchanges, and supporting Sarawak’s green digital economy.
The partnership aligns with Malaysia’s broader net-zero goals, enhancing Sarawak’s reputation as a hub for sustainable investment.
This collaboration is set to redefine Sarawak’s industrial and economic landscape, bolstering its position as a key player in global carbon neutrality efforts.
