KUCHING (Jan 22): Sarawak’s forward-thinking investment in hydrogen technology has garnered praise from the Parliament’s Special Select Committee on Environment, Science and Plantation.
The committee’s chairman, Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim, commended Sarawak’s ability to address future energy needs while reducing reliance on carbon-emitting energy sources, highlighting the state’s efforts as a benchmark for others across Malaysia.
“Sarawak has achieved commendable progress in green energy, with a significant percentage of energy production derived from carbon-free sources such as hydrogen and hydroelectricity.
“This is an initiative we aim to highlight so that other states at the national level can follow Sarawak’s example,” he said, according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Ahmad Amzad earlier led a delegation from the committee on a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
During the visit, the delegation exchanged views on key advancements in environmental and scientific initiatives, particularly Sarawak’s leadership in hydrogen technology.
“We are here in Sarawak to explore developments in hydrogen technology, an area where Sarawak has taken the lead.
“Our delegation has visited the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Sarawak Energy Berhad to attend briefings on hydrogen technology and observe pilot projects, including hydrogen-powered buses and cars,” said Ahmad Amzad.
Also present were Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng and Padang Serai MP Dato Azman Nasrudin.
