KUCHING (Dec 2): One year ago, Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) announced plans to invest RM2 billion in a 500-megawatt (MW) combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in Miri to enhance state-wide access to affordable, reliable and clean energy under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR).

On Sunday, the ground-breaking ceremony for the 500MW CCGT Miri plant officially took place, taking us one step closer to achieving the goals set forth in the SGR.

Sarawak, Italy ink MOU to develop 500MV power plant

KUCHING (Dec 2): Sarawak has achieved another milestone in its energy transition efforts collaborating with Italy’s sustainable technology solutions provider to develop a large-capacity power plant in the state.

In a statement on Monday, ACACIA Power Sdn Bhd, established in 2024, said it is spearheading the development of a renewable energy project using acacia wood pellets and biomass feedstock sourced locally.

Italy backs S’wak’s green energy vision with collaboration, financial support

KUCHING, Dec 2: Italy is committed to supporting Sarawak’s green energy initiatives, particularly in energy transition and decarbonisation efforts.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, the Italian ambassador to Malaysia, Massimo Rustico, described Sarawak as a significant region in Malaysia due to its pivotal role in energy transition and development projects.

Nusantara to turn Borneo into future growth centre

KOTA KINABALU (Nov 30): Borneo will be the future growth centre with the relocation of Indonesia’s new capital city to Nusantara in east Kalimantan, said Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Phoong who is the first minister from Sabah to visit Nusantaran on November 28, said the world’s third largest island will also become the most important development centre in the whole east Asean.

Premier: Sarawak to become ‘Battery of Asia’ with completion of energy resource hubs by 2035

MIRI (Nov 30): Sarawak is set to become the “Battery of Asia” by 2035 after all of its energy resource hubs are completed by 2035, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He outlined the current development of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plants in Miri and Kuching, each capable of generating 500 MW of energy, with a third one in the pipeline in Bintulu, collectively producing a total of 1,500 MW.
